All about that glow...

it's not a hidden fact that i can't get enough glow.. on the face, body, hair, nails... you name it and i think it needs a lil glowy-ness. esp now that we're all in summer, we all can use a bit of radiance in our lives ! so i thought what better thing to write about than my top favorite highlighters ?! i know some people are very hesitant when it comes to purchasing a highlighter. some of my clients have misconceptions about them. some think they're all extremely glittery or that it'll make them look oily. i can assure you there is a highlighter for everyone out there. yes, some of them do have chunks of glitter, but there's also very subtle highlighters on the market for all you low key babes. and if you highlight the correct parts of your face you won't look oily. All of my favorite highlighters are very different from one another.

The one i use on a daily basis is the Mac Soft & Gentle highlighter. When you look at it, it does have a bit of subtle "glitter" in it, but once you put it on the skin it disappears. I like it for everyday use bc it isn't so subtle that you can barely notice anything but it's not like you can spot me from the heavens either. But, on days when i feel like i wanna do the most (which is 90% of the time) i'll spray a bit of fix plus on my brush and then apply the highlighter. If you're going to start out highlighting and are looking for one to buy i'd say go for this one bc you can play it up or play it down !

The newest addition to my "highlight on fleek" squad is the well talked about Champagne Pop by Becca and Jaclyn Hill. I (like most people who own this) cannnnnot get enough of it. Highlight game is so strong when i pop this baby on ! It's deff a noticeable highlighter, but in all the best ways possible. One of the best points about this product is that it looks so good on a number of skin tones/undertones. I myself have worn it when i'm my natural color (which is as white as wonder bread) and when i'm self tanned. I do have to confess that i kinda change races after i tan.. and the fact that it looks amazing either way says a lot about the product. i've also used it on different clients with completely opposite skin tones and i can truly say it worked for everyone ! It's a light golden/peachy color.. absolutely stunning ! It doesn't have any chunks of glitter or any of that nonsense.. it is the same amazing finish as all the other Becca highlighters but in a color that works for everyone ! Lately, i've been using it as a highlight on my cheekbones, nose, cupids bow, forehead, brow bone, inner corner, and on the lid.. am i obsessed or nah ?! I am beyond sad that this is a limited edition product, i've already ordered a backup and i think i need to order 50 more to make sure i have enough to get me through life. If you haven’t already, go scoop this up before it's gone, i promise you will not regret it !

Laura Mercier's highlighter is what you're looking for, if you want a gorgeous yet subtle highlight ! This is actually considered a "matte" highlighter. There is no glitter, shimmer, nothing but a soft subtle radiance glow to it. Even tho it's matte it isn't drying like most matte powders are, bc it has jojoba oil in it ! When i want a little more of a glow i'll actually use this to set my concealer under my eyes since it isn't an intense highlighter you can get away with it. This is also amazing if you may be worried about highlighters getting into your fine lines or wrinkles and making them look worse. This will not make anything look bad bc it's so finely milled and it doesn't have chunks of glitter in it so it won't attract attention to those areas of concern. If you want something to give you a subtle radiance or even a powder to set your under eyes that has a bit of sheen to it, this is your gal !

The Too Faced Candlelight powder is actually a setting powder for all over your face, so not exactly a "highlighter." This will give you just what the name says, that gorgeous warm candlelit glow ! I will say it's a bit much for me to wear during the day.. so i tend to stick to wearing it at nighttime only ! (During the day i wear the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light to set my face, but I'm going to be doing a whole post dedicated to that line so i didn't want to put it on here twice.) I dust it over my face with a big fluffy brush and it sets the foundation without giving it the typical powdery finish. When you swatch it, you will notice it looks pretty white with chunks yellow glitter, but on the face it doesn't look too white or too glittery. Like i said, i do prefer to wear this at nighttime versus day, but even in the daylight it still looks pretty, just not as subtle as i like daytime makeup to be. This is my favorite translucent powder with a glow !

Swatches of the highlighters: The one at the top is Champagne Pop, Mac Soft & Gentle below, Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact, and then on the bottom Too Face Candlelight Glow.

I hope this helped you out if you're in the market for a new highlighter and don't know where to start. I know that highlighting or strobing is such a big trend right now and it's practically everywhere you look. If you have any more questions feel free to leave them in the comments below or e-mail them. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your day to read what i have to say. Hope y'all have a great week !

xoxo to the moon & back

Maris
